MARTIN GLICKLICH

Martin Glicklich has enjoyed success as an educator, soloist, conductor, chamber and orchestral musician, and has been described as possessing dazzling virtuosity with an enchanting, singing sound.  A native of Los Angeles, Martin received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in flute performance at the Thornton School of Music at USC under the tutelage of James Walker.  He was given the Department of Music Award for Most Outstanding Doctoral Wind and Percussion Student.  Previously, Martin had also studied with Walfrid Kujala at Northwestern University where he received his Master of Music degree, and with Geraldine Rotella at California State University, Northridge, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree.  Martin has played in most of the orchestras in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, and the Long Beach Symphony, among others.  Working in many musical genres and styles, Martin has also collaborated with a variety of performing artists.  He can be heard on recordings of Neil Diamond, Harry Connick Jr., as well as with the Hollywood Klezmer Ensemble, among others.  He has performed live with Marvin Hamlisch, Theodore Bikel, as well as with Marilyn Horne and Midori.  Active in the motion picture recording industry, Martin can also be heard on a number of movies. 

    Dedicated to teaching as well as performing, Martin has had students accepted as flute majors to the Colburn Conservatory, Thornton School of Music at USC, Herb Albert School of Music at UCLA and the Manhatten School of Music, among others.  He has been on the faculty at La Sierra University for ten years where he continues to teach flute and coach chamber music. Martin has recently been appointed to the faculty of the Montecito Summer Music Festival.
