Organic Chemistry I, II, and III
  • Organic Chemistry with OWLv2 access, 7th ed. by Brown, Foote, Iverson, and Anslyn, from Cengage. ISBN-13: 978-1-285-19897-2
  • A molecular modeling kit is strongly recommended.
  • You will need both the OWLv2 access and some access to the textbook. If you find a used copy of the textbook, that is great, but you will still need to purchase the electronic access to OWLv2. The La Sierra University Bookstore is selling a bundle for the Organic Chemistry lecture and lab that is the very cheapest way to purchase the materials for this course. Just be careful to keep everything in the bundle!! It has several access codes that you need to use to access all your materials.
  • The molecular model kit really helps with this very visual class. We recommend the Indigo Instruments Basic Organic Chemistry Model Kit (68845NV), which is also available at the bookstore, because it is inexpensive and has sufficient pieces.

Organic Chemistry I, II, and III Lab
  • A Small Scale Approach to Organic Chemistry Laboratory Techniques + OWL LabSkills Prelabs, 3rd ed, 1st ed. by Pavia, Lampman, Kritz, Engel, from Cengage. ISBN-13: 978-1-285-26833-0
  • A lab notebook with duplicate pages, you will turn in the originals and keep the duplicates
  • A laptop
  • You will need access to both the textbook and the OWL (different than lecture). The La Sierra University Bookstore is selling a bundle for the Organic Chemistry lecture and lab that is the very cheapest way to purchase the materials for this course.
  • You will be making notes of what you did in lab during lab and turning in your observations immediately after lab. So, you need a lab notebook that makes a duplicate copy; any duplicate lab notebook works, but again, La Sierra University Bookstore is selling a well priced notebook. This is not part of the bundle.
  • Labs will require you to complete activities using a computer. Most activities won't be using your computer in class, but at home. It will involve installing software and using your @lasierra.edu email account to obtain a license (free to you, but still need to register) and a tablet will not work (you need a laptop or desktop).
  • You will be required to wear the goggles supplied in your lab locker. If a lab coat or gloves are required for an experiment, you will also be provided with those. Because we have specific safety requirements, please do not bring your own lab coat or goggles.
