Archaeology Discovery Weekend is an annual event in mid-November, sponsored by the Center for Near Eastern Archaeology and organized by its Archaeology Planning Committee. The schedule typically involves Saturday afternoon and evening and most of Sunday. Events include Lectures by world-class scholars on a common theme, a Middle Eastern or Mediterranean banquet, a Teachers Workshop, a Kids Dig, hands-on lab activities, and a genuine Bedouin Hospitality Tent set up for refreshments.
The seventh annual Archaeology Discovery Weekend will feature the Syria and its many treasures, join us in discovering the wonders Syria has to offer:
|Illustrated presentation on "Threats to Syria's archaeology"|
|A look into Syria's human history and culture|
|The illicit use of artifacts to fund Syria's civil war|
|Learn about the latest technology used to prevent destruction of archaeological sites.|
|Events including activities for children and our annual Middle Eastern Banquet!|
Specialists from around the world will present their research.
Special Guest Lecturer Rami Khouri
The Center for Near Eastern Archaeology has invited Rami Khouri to speak on Syria-Iraq and the ISIS threat. Rami Khouri is from the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at American University of Beirut. Khouri will be speaking in the Troesh Auditorium at the Zapara School of Business on Tuesday, October 13.
