Why Study Communication?

There are many answers, ranging from securing full-time employment to making a difference in their workplaces and communities, to continuing their education. But among the most important answer is that college graduates with Communication degrees have the knowledge and verbal skills employers need. 

They demonstrate strong verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills and have considerable expertise in speaking well in front of small and large audiences. 

Employment Outlook

People with degrees in communication work in a wide range of occupations: advertising, education, healthcare, human resources, marketing, organizational consulting, motivational speaking, performing arts/drama, public relations, newspaper, radio, television, film, sports promotion, politics, campaign management, and pharmaceutical sales.

Depending on the occupation, we encourage students to combine Communication with a second major to prepare for careers in areas such as law, politics, science, education, business, management, and marketing.

While taking Public Speaking and Interpersonal Communication, I gave a speech at least once a week. Now I am completely comfortable speaking in front of crowds, and I enjoy giving speeches and presentations.

Strategic Communication Bachelor of Arts

Explore how organizations and individuals use communication to negotiate their roles in society. This program examines the applied and theoretical aspects of interpersonal, mass, organizational, small group, and speech communication.

Some classes you will take: Persuasion and Rhetoric, Intercultural Communication, and Edutainment.
