GENERAL STUDIES (52-54 Units; 20 Upper Division)

Four units from the student’s major may apply for this section

THEME I.  Identity, Citizenship and Globalization (8 units)

  1. Understanding Human Beings OR
  2. National and Global Citzenship
  3. Globalization of Identity and Citizenship (SSCI 104 or 105 or 106 or 107)

THEME II.  Culture and Context (12 units)

  1. Arts Appreciation or History
  2. Historical or Contemporary Culture and Context
    Students without a sequence in American History in high school are required to complete HPSC 274, PLSC 485, HIST 334 OR HIST 430.
  3. Exploring American Culture (HUMN 204 or 205 or 206)

THEME III.  Religious Beliefs and Practice (16 units)

Each Student is required to take either RLGN 304 (THEME III.B.) OR RLGN 305 (THEME III.A.) and 12 additional units, 4 of which must be from THEME III.C.

  1. Spiritual Experience
  2. Beliefs and Heritage
  3. Scripture
  4. Religion and Society

THEME IV.  Scientific Inquiry (12 units)

Must include one lab course from A or B.

  1. Life Science
  2. Physical Science
  3. Scientific Foundation (NSCI 405 or 406 or 407)

THEME V.  UNST 404 Senior Seminar (4 units)

 

 

FOUNDATIONAL STUDIES (19-28 Units)

A minimum grade of C (2.00) or better is required for all foundational studies.

  1. UNST 101 Freshman Seminar (2 units)
  1. Rhetorical Skills (4 – 13 units)
    1. College Writing (ENGL 111, 112, 113) OR ENGL 124
    2. Major rhetorical intensive course OR Argumentation and Inquiry (ENGL/COMM 304)
  2. Mathematics  (4 units)
    1. CPTG 117 OR MATH 115 OR MATH 121 OR MATH 155
  1. Modern Languages (4 units)
    1. Level 103 or appropriate score on the language placement exam
  1. Health and Fitness (2 units)
    1. HLSC 120
