Study of Nuclear and X-ray radiation-The next project I plan to work on is to work with students to reproduce and enhance the experiments recently reported that show that unrolling tape produces x-rays.
Designing a Better SIDS Baby Monitor- I am a consultant for a Physician that is working with engineers and myself to design and produce a much better baby monitor to sense the conditions that lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). My part of the project is to use Mathcad and preliminary data from a prototype to determine how to best process the data from the various sensors (LED to sense blood flow, and a 3-axis accelerometer) to enable the electronics to provide a reliable early warning of dangerous conditions the could lead to SIDS.
Effective Use of Computers in Physics Education- For a long time I have been working to make effective use of computers in teaching undergraduate physics courses. For example: I was in charge of the General Physics Labs when they were converted from student notebooks for lab reports to the use of laptop computers to prepare lab reports. My current interests are to learn how too effectively integrate the use of Classroom Response Systems into my teaching of introductory physics classes.
Undergraduate Student Research- I am a strong believer in undergraduate research and am interested in working with students on undergraduate research. I am happy to integrate them into projects that I am doing as well as support them as they work on projects of their own choosing.
