The theme for the 2014-2015 school year is: Living CREATION Healthy

Creation is an acronym meaning: Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook, and Nutrition.

We want to invite all faculty and staff at La Sierra University to become a member of Velocity (it is FREE!) and benefit from the many great opportunities provided to improve your wellness.

Our Mission Statement

The new wellness initiative at La Sierra University is dedicated to establishing and effectively maintaining an environment on campus that promotes and enhances the well-being of the faculty, staff and students by providing PHYSICAL, MENTAL, and SPIRITUAL growth opportunities.

Our Goals

  • Create a campus culture that promoties and values the principles of wellness
  • Improve the quality of life and wellbeing for the university community
  • Become a positive influence for health, fit and well behaviors for the surrounding community and society at large by serving and leading by example

Our Objectives

  • Create a membership base with faculty & staff
  • Provide education, trainings, and resources
  • Evaluate the needs of the La Sierra community
  • Increase awareness of all wellness components
  • Create a website for information and resources

Challenge 1

All Velocity members are invited to participate in "Living CREATION healthy" Lunch & Learn Challenge during the 2014-2015 school year! Attend ALL Lunch & Learn Seminars during the 2014-2015 school year and be entered into a raffle to win a prize.

All Velocity members that attend ALL EIGHT "Living CREATION Healthy" Lunch & Learn Seminars will receive a certificate of completion for this course.

Challenge 2

During Fall quarter 2014, all Velocity members are invited to participate for our Fitness Walk every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in front of the cafeteria for a 20 minute walk around the campus with our assistant, Jessica Han. Attend ALL Fitness Walks and you will be entered in a raffle to win a prize. 

During Winter quarter 2015 Fitness Walk will be lead by Christina Viramontes, who was the winner of last years Fitness Walk Challenge, every Monday at 12:00 p.m. to 12:30p.m. in front of the cafeteria.

  1. Walking Challenge (every Tuesday 12:15-12:35pm, meet in front of the cafeteria)
  2. Yoga Fitness Class (every Mon. & Thurs., 6:00-7:15pm)
  3. Fitness Center Orientation (it's free!)

  4. April 9th: Special Guest Lecture by Dr. Chidi Ngwaba, M.D. on Lifestyle Medicine 

    • 11AM-11:50AM in Hole Memorial Auditorium

  5. April 9th: Special Guest Lunch and Learn presentation by Dr. Chidi Ngwaba, M.D.

    • Exclusively for Velocity Members with RSVP Admission Ticket
    • 12-12:50PM in the Cactus Room

  6. April 19th: 5k and Fitness Expo

    • Starts at 8:00AM at the soccer field

  7. April 30th: Lunch and Learn presentation on Outlook by Fiip Milosavljevic, M.Div

What is Health?

What is Wellness?

Wellness refers to optimal health and vitality, which is determined by the decisions you make about the way you live. Enhanced wellness involves making conscious decisions to control one's risk factors that contribute to illness and injury and to increase quality of life and wellbeing.

The process of achieving wellness is constant and dynamic!

Other Aspects of Wellness:

  • Occupational Wellness - refers to the level of happiness and fulfillment you gain through your work
  • Financial Wellness - refers to your ability to live within your means and manage your money
