Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology

About the La Sierra University Chapter of Psi Chi

Psi Chi is the largest International Honor Society in Psychology, established in 1929. The mission of Psi Chi is to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology. Membership and its many benefits are lifetime. The local chapter of Psi Chi at La Sierra University was founded in 2000, by Dr. In-Kyeong Kim, and welcomes both Psychology AND Neuroscience majors and minors! Members of the La Sierra University chapter of Psi Chi are provided with resources and support to pursue academic, research and career interests in psychology and related fields. Our local chapter provides opportunities for community and volunteer services and we also host events throughout the year to help members and nonmembers learn more about psychology and related fields. Biweekly meetings are held in Ambs Hall — for more information contact psichi@lasierra.edu; all interested persons are welcome to attend these meetings! Learn more about Psi Chi membership, including opportunities for financial awards and grants by visiting psichi.org.

La Sierra University Psi Chi Officers for the 2020-2021

Kierstin Dunaway President

I was born and raised in Temecula, California and I’m currently a second year student here at La Sierra. I’m double majoring in Psychology and Secondary Education English with a minor in Forensic Psychology. My plan is to graduate with my teaching credential and to teach high school English and Psychology. I also plan to further my education by obtaining a Masters degree down the road. In my free time I love to help out with the honors department on campus, listen to music, and spend time with my family. I joined Psi Chi to become more involved with the department and to further understand the field.

Zully Matul Vice President

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Currently, I am a junior majoring in Psychology with minors in Neuroscience and Forensic Psychology. Though I am still considering other options, I plan to attend graduate school and work towards my Ph.D. to pursue Forensic Neuropsychology. Before I retire, I hope to become a professor which will allow me to share my knowledge, experiences, and connections with students, specifically, those who are less privileged. Some of my favorite things to do are serve my church community, play guitar, work out, surround myself with family and friends, and laugh at memes I find on twitter. Joining Psi Chi was important to me because it allows me to integrate psychology and neuroscience into my life outside of class, while also giving me a community to share my passion with.

Regina Leach Treasurer

I was born in Fort Collins, Colorado and shortly after moved to Agana Heights, Guam. However, the majority of my life I spent in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am currently a senior majoring in Neuroscience on the Pre-Med track. I plan on going to medical school to become a pediatric neurologist. Some of my favorite things to do are baking, hiking, and reading. I joined Psi Chi because I wanted to be involved in reaching out to others and engaging in conversations about psychological advancements and research outside of the classroom. I think that Psi Chi is a great opportunity to cultivate relationships with others who share a common interest in psychology.

Elisabeth Breen Secretary

I was raised in Palmdale, California. I am currently a senior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Neuroscience. I spend most of my time either helping out at my church back home in Palmdale, living at the gym so I can try new food later, hang out with friends, and take quick cat naps. I plan to attend graduate school and work towards my Ph.D. in Psychology. I want to be a Child Psychologist and specifically work with children who suffered trauma, and teach them how to cope with it. I initially joined Psi Chi because I wanted to meet other students who were driven and involved within the psychology field, I realized the relationships and environment is encouraging and allowed me to build friendships and find a place to share my passion for psychology.

Julia Sanchez Social Media Ambassador

I was born and raised in Sacramento, California. I am currently a senior, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Neuroscience. Upon graduation, I aspire to pursue a Psy.D. and become a Child and Family Psychologist. Outside of work and school, I love to draw, hike, play my flute, enjoy time with my loved ones, and serve my church community. Being part of Psi Chi has been a valuable experience for me as this community fosters meaningful connections, conversations, and friendships.
