Karisa Werner was a Spanish major in the World Languages Department, studied in Madrid, Spain, and was inducted into Alpha Mu Gamma, national collegiate foreign language honor society. She was secretary of the Gamma Tau chapter and active in our department-sponsored activities. She writes with this update on her life since leaving La Sierra University:

    “Since graduating from La Sierra University in 2008 I’ve tried     my best to keep life interesting; I think I’ve been successful so far.  I landed my first job in Seoul, South Korea teaching English for YBM ECC.  Working in Korea is a great way to save money and travel at the same time.  Many English teachers take advantage of Korea’s proximity to other Asian countries and travel during breaks.  I on the other had kept my travels to South Korea until the end of my term, after which I had the opportunity to visit Beijing and take a short 5 day tour of North Korea to see the famous Mass Games held there each summer. 

After Korea I was ready to have a change of scenery and decided my next stop would be France.  Since getting a work permit in Europe is a little more difficult for American citizens, I decided to take the easy road and become an Au Pair.  I currently live, work, and study in Dijon, France.  Being an Au Pair is great way to really get to know a culture and see first hand how other people live, it’s also an easy way to get a visa for anyone interested in living in France.  I’ve been here in Dijon for about a month now and my French has really improved and I’ve been taking advantage of my weekends to travel around France using their amazing train network.  As for my next stop, well, that’s still up in the air, but Japan is looking quite tempting.”
