$10,000 Writing Scholarship Competition Sponsored by the Department of English
To celebrate excellent writing, the Department of English at La Sierra University invites high school seniors to enter the $10,000 Writing Scholarship Competition.
First prize: $10,000 scholarship
Second prize: $5,000 scholarship
Categories of Work Considered
(All work must be original)
- Short story (800-2,500 words)
- Essay: academic or personal (800-2,500 words)
Submissions may be sent by mail or email and should include a completed entry form and a typed manuscript. Incomplete entries will not be considered. The deadline has been extended to January 30, 2015. Mailed entries must have a post mark that indicates that it has been sent on or before January 30, 2015. Emailed documents must be sent on or before January 30, 2015. Direct queries to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prose entries must be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, one inch margins. Insert page numbers and a title. Poems should use 12 point Times New Roman font, be single-spaced, and have left alignment. Names should only appear on the entry form, not on the actual manuscript.
Scholarship money will be distributed over four years. To be eligible, recipients must graduate from high school with a 3.0 GPA, enroll at La Sierra University by Fall 2015, declare and maintain an English major or minor, maintain a 3.0 GPA while attending La Sierra University, and hold a valid SSN. Only one entry per student per year will be accepted. Submissions will be read and winning entries chosen by La Sierra University faculty. All decisions are final. The faculty sponsor of the first prize winning entry will receive a cash prize of $100. Faculty may not sponsor more than five entries.
