$10,000 Writing Scholarship Competition

To celebrate excellent writing, the Department of English and Communication at La Sierra University invites senior high school students to enter the $10,000 Writing Scholarship Competition.
First prize: $10,000 scholarship
Second prize: $5,000 scholarship
Third prize: $2,000 scholarship
Categories of Work Considered (all work must be original)
Unpublished
- Short story (800-2,500 words)
- Essay: academic or personal (800-2,500 words)
- Poem
- Script
Published in campus or community newspaper
- News article
Submission Instructions
Submit a completed entry form and two copies of the manuscript. News articles must also be submitted with a photocopy of the published piece. Incomplete entries will not be considered. No faxed or e-mailed submissions accepted. Entries must be postmarked by December 31, 2012. Direct queries to: sfordham@lasierra.edu
Manuscript Preparation
Prose entries must be double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, one inch margins. Insert page numbers and a title. Poems should use 12 point Times New Roman font and be single spaced. Please do not center your poems. Student and faculty names should only appear on the entry form, not on the actual manuscript.
Rules
Scholarship money will be distributed over four years. To be eligible, recipients must graduate from high school with a 3.0 GPA, enroll at La Sierra University by Fall 2013, declare and maintain an English or Communication major or minor, maintain a 3.0 GPA while attending La Sierra University, and hold a valid SSN. Only one entry per student per year will be accepted. Submissions will be read and winning entries chosen by La Sierra University faculty. All decisions are final. The faculty sponsor of the first prize winning entry will receive a cash prize of $100. Faculty may not sponsor more than five entries.
