Giovanni Santos is Director of Bands at Loma Linda Academy, a position he has held since 2008. Mr. Santos is also the Adjunct Trumpet Professor at La Sierra University.
As an educator and conductor, Mr. Santos travels across the United States yearly to perform and conduct for band festivals and clinics. Most recently, he was guest conductor and performer for the Northern New England Conference Music Festival, the Atlantic Union Conference Band Clinic, a clinician for the UC Riverside Concert Band, and clinician for the SECC Junior High Band Festival. A proponent of new music for wind band, Mr. Santos has commissioned works by Tim Davies, Jay Kim, Karim Elmahmoudi, Greg Simon, Timothy Mahr, and Andrew Boysen, Jr. Santos was also recently awarded recognition for “excellence in music education” by the La Sierra University Music Department. Mr. Santos has led successful performance tours across the United States and France with special performances for Fete de la Musique (Paris), Notre Dame Cathedral of Chartres, and most recently, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In classes, lessons, and workshops, his conducting mentors have included Dr. Barbara Favorito, Professor H. Robert Reynolds, Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Tim Robblee, and Professor Sharon Lavery.
Mr. Santos is a graduate of La Sierra University (B. Mus) where he studied conducting with Dr. Barbara Favorito and trumpet with Dr. Richard Hofmann. He earned his MM in Music Education from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music where he studied trumpet with Boyde Hood and Donald Green (formerly of the Los Angeles Philharmonic).
