Biography

Ms. Pin-Fei Tang graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-champion and the Peabody Music Conservatory with Master of Music and the Artist Diploma studied with Professor Laurien Laufman and Stephen Kates. During the years of study there, she won the first prize of the Rolland String Competition. After graduation from Peabody, she got into the doctoral program in the University of Maryland studied with Professor Evelyn Elsing and the Guarneri String Quartet. She has been teaching cello and chamber music in La Sierra University since 1996. Ms. Tang is actively involved on stage performance for chamber music and solo, also she has been frequently invited to judge competitions and teaching in music festivals such as American String Teachers Association Competition, the 6th China National Cello Competition in Beijing China, CMTANC International Youth Music Competition in San Jose, the 1st Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong, Steinway Midsummer Music Festival, the International String Music Summer Festival in Vancouver, Canada and the Montecito International Music Festival in Santa Barbara.

Students won prizes from various competitions:
  • First places in cello solo, chamber music ensemble in American Protégé International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall 2013.

  • Best performance awards in cello solo, chamber music ensemble at the American Protégé International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall 2013.
  • First prizes in cello solo and chamber music divisions in 1st Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong China 2013.
  • First places in cello solo in ASTA, MTAC, Satori, Bach Festival competitions in Great los Angeles Area.

RESEARCH/ACADEMIC INTEREST/CREATIVE ACTIVITY AREA HIGHLIGHTS

Frequently she has been invited to judge competitions and teaching in music festivals such as American String Teachers Association Competition, the 6th China National Cello Competition in Beijing China, CMTANC International Youth Music Competition in San Jose, the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong, Steinway Midsummer Music Festival, the International String Music Summer Festival in Vancouver, Canada and the Montecito International Music Festival in Santa Barbara. Many of the graduates from her studio have got positions at professional orchestras and on faculty of music conservatories.
