Marguerite Marsh Vocal Scholarship Competition May 5, 2013 | 1:00 PM

La Sierra University Department of Music class of 1948 graduate Marguerite Marsh has established an annual scholarship to create opportunities for young singers of outstanding potential who are pursuing careers in professional classical singing or as a director/teacher of choral music.


1. The competition is open to all returning La Sierra University students and all new students who have been accepted for admissions to La Sierra University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

2. The competition is limited to singers who are 35 years old or less, as of May 5, 2013.

3. You must be enrolled as full-time student in 2013-2014 to receive the awards.

(Exception: The senior students for the year 2012-2013 who are seriously pursuing careers as a vocal performer, educator, or choir director can also apply).


1st Place: $3000

2nd Place: $2000

3rd Place: $1000

The scholarship recipients are required to participate as cast members in opera/musical productions and to conduct themselves as professional young artists in all opera, rehearsals, workshops, and performances.


Each applicant must be prepared to sing two operatic arias and one art song from memory. The songs should be selected so as to represent at least two stylistic periods:

Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary opera.

Failure to follow these requirements may result in disqualification.


Singing at the Opera Scholarship Competition will be considered as the admission audition for new students.


All applicants for the Opera Scholarship Competition must complete the competition application form on Orgsync no later than April 28, 2013.  In addition, all new students must complete the regular admission form and ensure that all materials are sent to the La Sierra University.

There is a $40 non-refundable application fee.
