University Takes Steps to Provide Increased Security In response to Police Shootings, Ongoing Search for Suspect

La Sierra University has taken a number of steps to enhance the safety of students, faculty, and staff, in response to the series of shootings involving police officers in Los Angeles and Riverside Counties.

This morning all access gates to the campus were closed, and now require a current La Sierra University student or faculty/staff identification card to be opened. All visitors to the campus must now enter through the main entrance off of Riverwalk Parkway. Gate access will continue to be limited until the situation involving the shooter has been resolved.

Security staffing has been increased, and this increased staffing will continue until the situation is resolved. Security is also working with the Riverside Police Department to keep current with the situation in the greater Riverside area. An administrative representative from the campus attended today’s RPD briefing.

Classes at the Criminal Justice campus in Corona were canceled on Thursday. They are tentatively scheduled to resume on Friday. All classes on the main Riverside campus were held Thursday, and will continue unless conditions change.

Unless the situation is resolved, those planning to attend the classical music concert in Hole Memorial Auditorium on Saturday evening will need to enter the campus through the main entrance. We suggest ticket holders plan to arrive 15-20 minutes earlier than they were planning to allow for some extra time to pass through the main gates.

A new telephone information line has been established for La Sierra University—951-785-2411. The most current information will be available there.

La Sierra University security personnel are monitoring all parts of the campus and will remain in contact with the police department. If the situation changes in any way related to campus safety, additional information will be released.
