Animal Policies Accessibility Services

Service Animals

Service Animals are individually trained to perform tasks and functions that benefit people with disabilities or that people with disabilities cannot perform for themselves. Animals functioning only to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as “Service Animals”. A Service Animal is not a pet. Please download the policies and procedures below and contact the Office of Accessibility Services for any further questions.

Emotional Support Animals

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is one that is necessary to afford the person with a disability an equal opportunity to use and enjoy University housing. An ESA may provide physical assistance, emotional support, calming, stability, and other kinds of assistance. ESAs do not perform work or task that would qualify them as a “Service Animal” under Americans with Disabilities Act. La Sierra University is committed to compliance with state and federal laws regarding individuals with disabilities. Download the forms below for more information. All other questions regarding Emotional Support Animals should be directed to the Office of Accessibility Services.

Housing Accommodations

In order to ensure that accommodation requests are reviewed for Fall 2023 housing assignments, requests must be submitted to Accessibility Services no later than September 1, 2023. Accommodation requests submitted after September 1 will be reviewed; however, if accommodations are granted, it is not guaranteed that they will be put in place for Fall.
