Frequently Asked Questions for Microsoft Outlook



Please follow the directions below to complete the process of changing your password within Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. There are a number of different verions of Outlook and with each different version there is a slightly different way to change the password within Outlook. If your version of Outlook does not have either of the menu options listed below, or you are having other trouble with Outlook, please submit a workorder at helpdesk.lasierra.edu for further assistance.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook
  2. Once Microsoft Outlook has opened, go to the Tools Menu
  3. Within this menu will be one of the following. As each version listed here has slightly different ways to change you password you please click the link which matches what you see under your Tools Menu.
  • Accounts
  • E-mail Accounts
If your Tools Menu has "Accounts" If your Tools Menu has "E-mail Accounts"
  1. This will open a new window, in this new window select your La Sierra E-mail account by highlighting it. To do this click on the account once to highlight it.
  2. Once you have highlighted your La Sierra University E-mail account, press the Properties button located on the right side of this window.
  3. A new window should have opened up, in this new window select the tab called "Servers." On this tab, located about two-thirds down will be your username.
  4. Below this you will see your password shown in a asterisks (*****). Replace those asterisks with the new password you just created.
  5. Click the "OK" button on this window to close this window and save your changes.
  6. Click the "Close" button on the next window to return to your main Outlook screen.
  7. To verify that you have completed this process successfuly press the "Send / Receive" button. Outlook will connect to our mail server to check and retrieve any new messages you may have received.
  1. This will open a new window, in this window select under "E-mail" check "View or Change existing e-mail accounts". Finally press the "Next" button to continue.
  2. Your La Sierra University E-mail account should be highlighted if it is not, highlight it by clicking the account name with your left mouse button once.
  3. Once you have highlighted your La Sierra University E-mail account press the "Change..." button on the right side of this window.
  4. A new window will appear, under the "Logon Information" section you should see your username.
  5. Below this you will see your password shown in a asterisks (*****). Replace those asterisks with the new password you just created.
  6. Click the Next Button, you will now be taken to a window seen in a previous step.
  7. To close this window and activate your changes press the "Finish" button found near the bottom of this window. To verify that you have completed this process successfuly press the "Send / Receive" button. Outlook will connect to our mail server to check and retrieve any new messages you may have received.
