North American Division SDA Administrator's Credential

Description

There are three administrative credential programs that have been designed for staff serving in leadership roles in the education system of the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  These are known as endorsement programs and involve a range of requirements as outlined below.  The programs are as follows;

 

  • Principal Endorsement
  • Supervisor of Instruction Endorsement
  • Superintendant of Schools Endorsement

 

Prerequisites and Required Courses

____  1. Holds an SDA Professional Teaching Certificate.
____  2. Has a master’s degree.
____  3. Has completed 27 quarter units of graduate courses in the areas of curriculum, school administration, supervision, school law, school finance, school facilities planning, personnel administration, field experience, school public relations, and religious education.
____  4. Provide evidence of having successfully completed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

Associate Superintendent

All the above (required and recommended) plus a minimum of three additional courses (9 credits) one from each of the following:

Superintendent of Schools

All the courses listed above plus:

____EDAD 684               School Business and Facilities Management
____Three consecutive years of successful school administration or supervision of instruction

Accreditation

La Sierra University's SDA credential program is approved by the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

 

Combining your Credential program with a Degree program in Administration and Leadership

Individuals pursuing administrative credentials may incorporate credential requirements as a part of a degree program. All of the courses for the Preliminary Administrative Credential program will also apply to degree programs at La Sierra

 

Admission

Admissions to the School of Education for graduate studies is determined by the Admissions Committee of the School based on the following factors:

Completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution of higher learning.

Portfolio to include:

- GRE general score
- Letters of recommendation
- Satisfactory Interview with advisor from the department

Academic record with GPA of 3.0 or higher for a Bachelor's degree.

Demonstration of satisfactory English language proficiency (for non-English language applicants)
