Professional Licensure
What is a professional licensure program?
A professional licensure, also known as "licensure," is a process through which a state or other governmental entity establishes standards of practice. It allows individuals who meet those standards to obtain legal permission to practice a particular profession by granting them licenses. (SARA Manual • Version 20.1. January 1, 2020, Distributed February 6, 2020).
Does my program meet licensure requirements?
La Sierra University's licensure programs adhere to the requirements set forth by the State of California.
It's important to note that professional licensure and certification requirements may vary by state or territory. Some states might have additional licensure or certification requirements, such as professional examinations, background checks, years of work experience, fingerprinting, etc. As a result, La Sierra University cannot guarantee that students will obtain licensure or certification. Before enrolling in a licensure program, it is crucial to be aware that state requirements can vary and may change frequently. In order to enroll in one of our programs, it is necessary to speak with an academic advisor beforehand.
Professional Licensure programs by College or School relating to out-of-state requirements
All professional licensure programs offered by the School of Education fulfill the educational requirements for licensure in California.
Please note: We are currently focusing on meeting the requirements for California only, not for other states. If you intend to enroll in a program but do not plan to seek employment in California, you must speak with an academic counselor before enrolling.
