About the Endowment
The Brandstater Gallery Endowment Fund was established to provide income to sponsor high quality artistic endeavors in the Department of Art + Design. These activities may include special art exhibitions, art competitions, special art classes and the support of visiting artists, with the goal of enriching the educational experience for students and promoting art and deisgn within the university. The interest from the Brandstater Gallery Endowment Fund provides the financial support for special programs that are beyond the resources of the general operating budget provided by the University.
In 2017 the Endowment supported New Zealand Artist John Pusateri for a six week stay at La Sierra as an artist-in-residence, and he subsequently won the Supreme Award at the 2018 New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards with work created while he was at La Sierra.
"Thank you for inviting and hosting me as an Artist in Residence at La Sierra University in 2017. It was a great experience, and I am thankful for the support I received. I was able to engage with the Department of Art + Design through talks, demonstrations and a solo exhibition at the Brandstater Gallery. Having time to focus on research and doing new work is a necessity for any artist, and I truly relished the six weeks to do this."
—John Pusateri, Artist in Residence at La Sierra University
"I greatly appreciate how active the Brandstater family is in the Art+Design community: attending all exhibitions, showing a great interest in student work, and engaging in conversation with artists and students. Their generosity in the Brandstater Endowment has created resources and opportunities for the gallery like producing exhibition catalogs and hosting international artists, all of which open a door to new learning experiences and cultures."
