Human Resource Management
Essential to the success of any growing business, human resource management can mean the difference between a motivated and productive workforce and a loss of competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Students graduating with a degree in Human Resource Management are prepared to pursue careers that require a broad understanding of business practices, a current knowledge of legal requirements, and developing other employees. Such careers include human resources specialists, human resources managers, training and development specialists, labor relation specialists, and compensation/benefits specialists.
Human Resource positions require a broad understanding of business practices, a current knowledge of legal requirements, and developing other employees. This provides an excellent background to increase promotion potential within the field, as well as multiple skill sets leading to other areas within business. Human Resource professionals often make excellent team leads or heads of department due to their ability to build, motivate, and sustain dynamic and effective teams in the workplace.
For the most current occupational information regarding human resource management and other careers, including required education and median salary amounts, we recommend you visit O*NET OnLine, a very useful website created for the U.S. Department of Labor. You may also click here for the latest information on careers in human resources, training, and labor relations from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The best business education should include two important standards: (1) Everything you learn should be useful in the world right now, not just twenty years ago or “someday in your future career.” (2) You should be given the opportunity to put what you learn to the test. Many universities offer excellent lessons in business theory. Others offer a more training-based education. Very few can offer you both.
