Internship/Practica

Internships in Exercise Science and Practicums in Health Science are intended to provide students with experience in professional settings in preparation for work life after graduation.

Internships are supervised field experiences  in approved health, fitness and/or wellness settings. Students complete two internships for two units each; EXSC 394 - 2 units and EXSC 494- 2 units The prerequisite requirements for EXSC 394  are EXSC 254 and EXSC 354, 30 units toward the Exercise Science major, a cumulative GPA of 2.3 and a major GPA of 3.0, Junior status, current CPR and First Aid certifications and department chair approval. The prerequisite requirements for EXSC 494 are EXSC 254, 354 and 444 and a cumulative GPA of 2.3 and a major GPA of 3.0, Junior status, current CPR and First Aid certifications and department chair approval.

The Practicum in Health Science is an orientation to field experience in Public Health providing students opportunities to begin developing professional competence. Instructor guided, students select and participate in various applied field activities with established programs. HLSC 475 is taken for 4 units with a prerequisite of 40 units applicable to any Health Science major. Arrangements should be made in the junior year and a plan approved no later than mid-quarter prior to registration.
