Whitny Braun de Lobatón, Ph.D., served as adjunct faculty teaching courses in political science and American legal history. She is also a Professor of Ethics and Director of the Master’s in Bioethics program at Loma Linda University. She holds a doctorate in Theology, Ethics, and Culture from Claremont Graduate University and a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. She is also a proud third generation alum of La Sierra University with a Bachelor’s in History and Political Science and master’s degrees in Public Health (MPH) and Bioethics (MA) from Loma Linda University. Her early research explored religion, law, and bioethics, with a particular focus on end-of-life rituals in the Jain tradition. She has transitioned to focus her research on the ethics of the beginning of life, specifically reproductive rights and the emerging legal landscape around fertility treatments and assisted reproductive technologies. In addition to her scholarship, she has produced and hosted documentary projects with HBO, Discovery, and National Geographic.

Joana Galarza PhD (ABD), MA

Galarza Johnson studies historical patterns in the Americas within Imperialist contexts. Her graduate research is within United States and Latin American History. Galarza Johnson works to expand conventional Anglo-centric historical narratives of American History with recent scholarship. Galarza Johnson has contributed to The Washington Post's "Made by History" column, has spoken at the nationally publicized Temecula Valley School District Board Meeting defending history education, and volunteered with the National Archives. She grew-up in New York, has lived in Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador for extended periods and currently lives in Southern California. She has taught undergraduate history since 2009.
