Nate began LEAF with his infamous Worm Lab, using nematodes to teach genetic sequencing. Several iterations and years later, LEAF x AVID has transformed into a flourishing outreach program with multiple experiences.

Keith has been a huge supporter of the LEAF program from its inception. His collaboration with local schools early on helped with the growth of the program.

An alumna of La Sierra University, Cristina is a former high school science teacher who creates the LEAF lesson plans, aligned with NGSS. She has a passion for positive student learning experiences, no matter what their circumstances may be.

As a local herpetologist, Hew enjoys interacting with students and providing them with fascinating labs. He regularly conducts research, both in herpetology and archaeology, bringing a unique perspective to the classroom.

Haylie is an Inland Empire native who was introduced to AVID in her middle school years. She continued on as an AVID student in high school and was an AVID tutor while attending La Sierra University. Her experiences show students how AVID can not only play a role in getting to college, but succeeding in college and beyond.

Amy is a La Sierra University alumna who has been the university’s AVID liaison since 2019. Along with Haylie, she connected with local high schools during the Covid-19 pandemic, beginning the outreach that has culminated in regular classroom visits and annual AVID Days.
