Student Employment
Student employees play a vital role in filling employment needs in many areas of the university and are an integral part of the success of La Sierra University. Without student employees, it would be very difficult to fill employment needs and do so within budgetary guidelines in many departments of the university.
As part of the Office of Human Resources, we are dedicated to helping you find a job on campus and ensuring that you get the most out of your employment experiences throughout your time at La Sierra University.
This section of our website is designed as a student resource for understanding on-campus student employment at La Sierra University. You will find information about the different types of employment for which you can apply, as well as how to get started searching for a job on campus, and the paperwork we will need from you before you start working. We have a helpful “FAQ” section which will provide even more clarity to the process.

Student Employment FAQ
This is a common misconception and we are happy to provide clarification. Students are not allowed to do homework or study while at work at their on-campus job, regardless of whether they are work study or non-work study employees. The purpose of the Federal Work Study program (FWS), according to the Department of Education, is as follows: “The FWS Program provides funds for part-time employment to help needy students to finance the costs of postsecondary education. […] A student’s FWS compensation is earned when the student performs the work.”
You are under no obligation to continue working for a department that you do not wish to. Due to the scarcity of on-campus jobs however, it may not be easy to find another position. If you come across the opportunity to move to another department and discontinue working in the original department, please let us know so that we can terminate your original student employment authorization form.
Please follow these easy steps:
- Go Online
- Create a Profile

Please note: if you do not receive a confirmation email, your application is not complete and was not submitted and you will need to resubmit it.
- Manage Job

Our system's search tool compares your resume with all available positions and generates an automatic email advisory when it finds a potential match.

The following are three ways that you can assist your students:
- Help to ensure your student has the necessary identification documents to complete mandatory employment forms. The most common issue that students face when hired for a job is not having their original, unexpired I-9 documents with them on campus. Please refer to this list to ensure that your student comes to campus with the federally required ID documents.
- Encourage your students to explore employment options while maintaining balance with their academics. On average students work eight to twelve hours per week, however balance is the key and individual work commitments will vary from student to student.
- Talk to your students about their work. By exploring career paths now, many students are able to identify future goals. While maintaining employment provides positive financial benefits, the experience also assists students as they explore the myriad of options ahead.
