Principal Research Interests

My primary research interests lie in examining the social psychological mechanisms that contribute to individuals’ continued involvement in toxic interpersonal relationships and high-control groups. Specifically, I seek to understand the cognitive, emotional, and social processes that sustain commitment to such harmful relational and group dynamics, even in the face of exploitation, coercion, or abuse. I am also deeply interested in the role of personality pathology, particularly the Dark Triad traits of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy, in shaping leadership within these contexts. By investigating how such traits facilitate manipulation, control, and the maintenance of power hierarchies, my work aims to illuminate the intersection of personality and social influence in fostering environments of dependency and constraint. Lastly, I am particularly interested in examining the detrimental effects that social media has had on society. My focus includes understanding how excessive or problematic use of digital platforms contributes to issues such as misinformation, polarization, decreased well-being, and the erosion of meaningful social connections.
