Have More Questions?
If we didn't answer the question you were looking for, we are more than happy to help. Please reach out to us through email and we will answer your questions as soon as we can.
Can I get a tour of the dorm?
Yes you can! We are excited to show you what our residence halls look like. We do ask that you make prior arrangements.
We actually suggest scheduling a campus visit so that you can take a complete tour of our beautiful campus and all we have to offer. Just be sure to let them know that you want to visit the dorm.
For up-to-date information regarding the cost of living in the residence hall, please check the Tuition Cost Sheet through Financial Services. For an accurate cost, add the total of the room and the meal plan you choose to select.
Please note: All students residing in residence halls are required to have a meal plan.
What is a Dorm Deposit?
In order to secure a room, we must have a dorm deposit on file for you. This deposit can remain on file until you check out after your full stay at La Sierra University if you choose.
The $150.00 dorm deposit is refundable upon checkout if there are no damages or cleanliness charges to your dorm room.
To pay your deposit:
- Online, login to the campus portal - financial tab - pay now
- Phone, call the Bursar office at (951) 785-2152
To request a dorm refund:
If you are no longer planning to live in the residence hall and you have already checked-out, you may request a refund of your Dorm Deposit.
- Please fill out this form: Dorm Deposit Refund Request
- Dorm Deposit Refund Requests may take up to three weeks to process by the Residence Hall Deans & Bursar office
- Dorm Deposit refunds are applied to your Student Account. If there is a credit, that money can be sent to you as a check.
If you have any questions regarding the payment of the Dorm Deposit, would like to check your Dorm Deposit Balance/Status, or have questions regarding a Dorm Deposit Refund Request, please reach out to the Bursar Office at (951) 785-2152 or by email at bursar@lasierra.edu.
We are glad you are coming to stay. We try to keep our move/check-in process as simple as possible.
- Upon arrival at the residence hall, check in at the front desk of the dorm by letting them know you are checking in and giving them your name.
- You will be shown a QR code to scan with your phone and complete the check-in documents from there.
- A RA will then escort you to your room and will give you your room key.
- You're all set! You can now start moving your things into your room and getting your space set up how you want it.
Please note: All residence halls are protected by automatically locking doors that require an ID card. This ID card will not be activated until you complete the check-in process and a Residence Hall Dean processes your check-in.
When it is time to move out at the end of the school year, or because you will not be residing in a residence hall for the upcoming quarter, please follow these steps in order to check-out.
- Schedule an appointment with your RA to complete your checkout.
- Pack up all of your belongings and clean your portion of the room by your scheduled appointment.
- Meet with the RA at the front desk to scan a QR code and fill out an online form. You will also return your room key at that time.
Failure to properly check out will result in forfeiture of/or charge equal to the room deposit. Additionally, a Residence Hall Dean will assess your room for cleanliness and damages after you check out to see if charges will apply. All items left in your room after check-out will be discarded.
The University is committed to maintaining high standards for safety in all areas. Every effort is made to provide adequate security by the University Campus Safety and Security Patrol and the Residential Life Staff.
Entry to each residence hall is accessible by ID Card only. This helps to ensure the safety of our residents. In addition, within each residence hall, resident rooms are only accessible by those who are residents.
Rooms are locked and all Residential Life staff do our part to keep our residents safe.
Curfews are based on academic and behavioral standing in the residence hall.
- Freshman = 1:00 AM
- Sophomores/Juniors/Seniors = 2:00 AM
- Graduate Students = No Curfew
Residence halls that will be open or closed during the holidays will be announced at the beginning of each academic year. Students who live out-of-state or are international students and cannot leave campus during this time must make prior arrangements with the appropriate Deans before each holiday (charges may apply).
Space over the holidays is limited, please pay attention close to the upcoming holiday with instructions on how to request space.
All of the residence halls have gated parking lots. To park on campus, all cars must first be registered with Security. Angwin Hall, Calkins Hall, and Sierra Towers parking lot gates are only accessible with a student ID card. Please refrain from parking in the visitors' section, red zone, Deans or RA spaces.
Each residence hall has a lobby or common area in which guests of our residents are allowed to come and visit.
Overnight guests are not allowed.
Yes, we encourage you to make your room in our residence halls feel like a home away from home. Just remember, you do have to take it all down at the end of the year.
Each room comes furnished with your basic furniture needs. You are, however, allowed to bring additional furniture. Just remember, if you move rooms or check-out, you have to take it with you. Additionally, we do not store residence hall provided furniture and it will need to remain in your room.
For a full list of decoration do's and dont's please look at the Residential Life Handbook.
We understand that you may have need of a housing accommodation. We work closely with the Office of Accessibility Services to provide the right housing accommodations to those who need them. All those who need a housing accommodation will need to register with the Office of Accessibility Services located in Sierra Vista Hall room 103. You can find more information at their website: La Sierra University OAS
In order to ensure that accommodation requests are reviewed for the upcoming quarter's housing assignments, requests must be submitted to Accessibility Services no later than September 1 (Fall Quarter), December 15 (Winter Quarter), March 15 (Spring Quarter). Accommodation requests submitted after these dates will be reviewed; however, if accommodations are granted, it is not guaranteed that they will be put in place for that quarter.
Not Wanting To Live In A Residence Hall?
We understand that some students may not wish to live in a residence hall. Some prefer to live with their families while others have experienced the residence halls but want to use their last year to stretch and get a taste of life to come. Whatever the reason, we are sad to see you go.
There are a few things to note for living off campus and they can be found in this section.
Unmarried students under the age of 21 are required to live on campus unless they live with their parents or other approved host. Students may petition to live off-campus under the following circumstances:
- You live with your parents/legal guardian
- Living with a blood relative who is at least 25 years of age (cousins will not be approved)
- Living with La Sierra University Faculty/Staff Member
- Financial Hardship (to be considered by the financial committee)
- Married and/or have a dependent child
- Medical condition that cannot be accommodated on campus
- Will be 21 within the first 5 weeks of Fall Quarter
*Students enrolled in less than 8 units may live off campus.
La Sierra University recognizes that changes in student population trends in recent years have resulted in alternative housing needs for many students. In response to such needs, La Sierra University provides a variety of housing options for students. When the demand allows, we also provide such housing for faculty and staff as well.
Residential Life does not manage these off-campus housing options. For information and application process for those housing opportunities, please visit:
