Welcome to La Sierra University!
To help you prepare for a successful academic year, please review the steps below. These guidelines apply to both newly admitted freshmen and current students.
Not all steps will apply to every student, so feel free to skip any that don’t match your situation.
New Freshman / Transfer students
- First, locate your username in your application status portal.
If you are not able to find it, your username is the combination of:
First letter of your first name
+ First 3 letters of your last name
+ Last three digits of your La Sierra University ID number.
Example: jdoe987 - Navigate to https://portal.lasierra.edu. Below the login form, click on Reset Password. You will be prompted to enter your username. Click on "reset password"
- You will receive an email on your personal email on how to create a new password. Open the email you received and click on "Reset Password"
- After you create a new password, return to https://portal.lasierra.edu and log in with your username and newly created password
- Follow instructions on adding the DUO app to your phone and connecting it to your student account: https://lasierra.edu/information-technology/mfa-duo/first-time-setup/
- If you are having issues resetting your password, please contact IT at [email protected] or call 951-785-2900
Step 1: Submit your FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be eligible to receive federal grants and loans as well as institutional aid.
Be aware of the priority filing deadline for California: March 2.
Once your FAFSA has been processed, log into your Self-Service account to view your award.
To accept/decline awards:
Go to Financial Aid → Award → “Award by Aid Year” → select the appropriate year → Submit.
Under “Accept Award”, choose Accept, Decline, or Accept Partial Amount. Then click “Submit Decision”.
Note: Your aid will not disburse if you have outstanding requirements.
Log into Self-Service → Financial Aid → Eligibility → Student Requirements → Select Aid Year. Under “Unsatisfied Requirements” you’ll see any missing items.
Submit all paperwork promptly to avoid aid delays.

If you are living on campus, please complete and submit an application and your $150 dorm deposit. Instructions can be found at https://lasierra.edu/residential-life/residence-application/
If you are looking for off-campus or non-dorm university housing you must meet specific criteria, contact residential life for details at [email protected]
To make your education more affordable and less stressful, La Sierra University offers flexible payment plans that let you spread out your tuition and fees over time without the high interest rates of traditional loans.
The enrollment process is simple:
- Go to the overview page and click "View payment plan options."
- Choose your plan and click "Enroll in Plan" (bottom right).
- Review the agreement, scroll down, check the box to agree, sign, and
click "Continue." - Add or select a payment method.
- Review and confirm your payment.
Important quarterly deadlines:
Fall: September 10
Winter: December 10
Spring: March 10
