Directed Self-Placement

Placement into English courses is based on what you the incoming student feel will best meet your needs. To help make your decision, you should read the course descriptions for ENGL 111A and 111B and complete the directed self-placement survey below. Once completed please speak to your OACS advisor  to help determine where you should begin. 

ENGL 111A College Writing IENGL 111B College Writing I Plus

3 Credits

3x a week for 50 min. or 2x a week for 90 min

4 credits

4x a week for 50 minutes

Students work on three major essays: personal narrative, evaluation, and rhetorical analysis. All of these papers will go through the writing process, including peer review and multiple revisions. The course ends with students completing portfolios of their work.

Students spend one class session per week in a smaller group with their 111B cohort. These smaller class sessions will focus on skill development, grammar lessons, and direct feedback from the instructor on each students progress.
