[La Sierra University Library Heritage Room]

Heritage Room Faculty Services

We will assist faculty in locating information and resources for classroom instruction, assignments, and research projects. We have the fifth largest collection of Adventist-related material in the world, and will also contact outside sources of information when necessary, including the Ellen G. White Estate, the archives of the General Conference, the Andrews University and Loma Linda Heritage Rooms, and other SDA institutions. Reference assistance is available in person, by telephone, by e-mail, or by mail.

The Heritage Room can be reached by phone at x2518, or by E-mail to the Special Collections Librarian, Chelsi Cannon, at ccannon@lasierra.edu.

Upon request, we will produce specialized bibliographies for the use of a particular class or academic project. An example bibliography on Seventh-day Adventist missions in various countries of the world is available at http://www.lasierra.edu/library/heritage/sda-missions.html

Tours and Student Orientation

Orientation tours intended to make students familiar with the Heritage Room collections can be arranged by e-mail to Chelsi Cannon or by calling the Library Reference Desk at x2396. Since space is limited, classes larger than 20 should plan to have several orientation sessions.

Classroom Use

You may make arrangements to reserve the Heritage Room for special classroom sessions when such use is needed. Instructors in Religion, History, English, and Education have lectured here in the past.

We have seats for only 12 students at present, but the room can accomodate up to 20 at a time if seating is not required.

Displays & Loans

Arrangements can be made to set up displays of Heritage Room books or memorabilia outside the Library. Although the Heritage Room collections are non-circulating, items may be loaned to faculty members for use in the classroom or for their own research projects on an overnight basis. Contact the Special Collections Librarian at x2382 or via e-mail at tzbarasc@lasierra.edu for information.

Heritage Room materials do not circulate. If a circulating copy of the material is not available, requests may be made to photocopy certain materials. All requests will be subject to copyright law, as well as consideration of the physical condition of the materials. Faculty can charge photocopying if they present a signed interdepartmental voucher. There is a fee of 10 cents per page copied.
