High School Submissions Research Emphasis Week

This year, La Sierra University has decided to expand their traditional Research Emphasis Week to include a High School Humanities Division.  By opening up a category in the competition to include high school students, La Sierra University hopes to encourage and support academic rigor in secondary education while also providing high school students with a space in which to share the results of their hard work.

Students who submit their paper along with all the applicable documentation will be entered into the High School Division competition.  The committee will not score them against the undergraduate students; rather, they will be competing among other high school students’ submissions.

Depending on the number and quality of submissions, the committee may choose to:

  • Provide constructive feedback on the paper
  • Select the submission to be showcased at REW for either a poster spot, presentation slot or as a participant in a roundtable discussion
  • Award the student(s) with scholarship to La Sierra University and/or cash prizes
  • Invite the high school applicant to have an in-person or Zoom conversation with a faculty member from the field in which he/she is interested
