An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held Sat., May 6 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. and a gallery opening on Sun., May 7 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The participating institutions will be Loma Linda Academy, La Sierra Academy, Orangewood Academy, Glendale Academy, Newbury Park Academy, and Norte Dame High School in Riverside.

Each of the schools will exhibit up to 20 art pieces each. Art teachers at the participating schools and academies selected pieces for the show and were encouraged to provide a variety of media. More than 100 works of art will be on display in mediums such as painting, drawing, photography, and fiber.

This exhibit is exclusive to the participating high schools. During the installation of the exhibition, teachers were invited to bring several of their students to learn about gallery installation and lighting.

La Sierra University Art+Design senior students will judge the works on display and select exemplary pieces for awards. The awards will be presented at the opening reception. Prizes will include bundles of art supplies and scholarships for award winners who enroll at La Sierra as Art+Design majors in the future.

“Creating a larger creative community is important because so much of what determines success as an artist is one's ability to communicate both visually, and person-to-person through conversation and dialogue about the artwork itself,” said Tim Musso, Brandstater Gallery director and assistant art professor.

Admission to the exhibition and reception is free. For more information, call 951-785-2170 or e-mail art@lasierra.edu. La Sierra University is located at 4500 Riverwalk Parkway, Riverside. A campus map is available at https://lasierra.edu/campus-map/.
