Annual student show returns to Brandstater after three years
Fifty art works created by 20 students are now installed and on display through May 5. An artists’ reception at the gallery is slated for April 24 at 6 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Unlike previous virtual exhibits held over the past couple of pandemic-burdened years, this opening will return to its traditional format and will be hosted exclusively on site.
“I am pleased to announce the return of the Annual Art+Design Student Show to the university Brandstater Gallery,” said Gallery Director Tim Musso. “This exhibition features art and design work by any major who has taken at least one A+D class in the past three years and who submitted artwork for the exhibition. The exhibit showcases student creativity and features a wide variety of digital and analogue work ranging from ceramics, UI/UX design, to printmaking.”
Fine art major and Colton resident Shailani Skoretz is also a gallery assistant who along with Musso and two other assistants worked 30 hours to install the 50-piece student show. She entered four pieces -- two in graphite, one a pen and marker work, and one in mixed media. The student show is her first experience displaying her work in a formal exhibit.
“I am excited for people to see the work that I've spent so much time on, as well as the work of all the other students who have worked so hard too,” Skoretz said. “I would love to be a full-time artist and sell my work. I am also interested in working for a gallery. I am definitely open to other options and am still exploring what the possibilities are.”
Brandstater Gallery is located in the university’s Visual Art Center on Middle Campus Drive. Gallery hours are noon – 5 p.m., Monday – Thursday. For information email tmusso@lasierra.edu.
