Film producer Zlotoff to hold screening at La Sierra University

Veteran Hollywood producer, writer and director Lee David Zlotoff will share his movie-making knowledge next Monday during a screening of the 1996 film “The Spitfire Grill” which he wrote and directed. 

The film will be shown at 7 p.m., Nov. 16, at La Sierra University's Matheson Hall. Zlotoff will hold a question-and-answer session following the movie. Admission is free. Please be aware the film is rated PG.

The creator of the television series, “MacGyver,” Zlotoff is currently working on a big budget movie version of his popular 1980s television show. Zlotoff's credits include serving as producer/writer and screenwriter respectively for 1980s television hits “Remington Steele” and “Hill Street Blues,” as executive producer of “Snowy River: The McGregor Saga” and as consulting producer/writer for “Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service.”
 
“The Spitfire Grill,” with Academy Award-winning actresses Ellen Burstyn and Marcia Gay Harden, won the 1996 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award. The film tells the story of a young woman named Percy (Alison Elliot), who was recently released from prison. She travels to the small town of Gillead in search of a new start. She is taken in by Hannah (Burstyn) and given a job in her diner, the eponymous Spitfire Grill. The town is transformed by the presence of a newcomer, stirring resentment and fear in some, growth in others and redemption in the end.
