Guitarist Zimmer to perform Latin, Spanish works

 

Spice up your weekend with the rich, mesmerizing guitar music of Spain and Latin America. La Sierra adjunct guitar Professor Lee Zimmer will present a recital March 7 of exciting works by a wide range of composers.

There are at least eight composers on the program, promising an exciting evening rich with the sounds of Spanish and Latin American composers' works for guitar.

La Sierra University's adjunct guitar Professor Lee Zimmer will bring these works to life in a recital at La Sierra University's Hole Memorial Auditorium, March 7, at 7 p.m. The program begins with Isaac Albeniz's “Leyenda,” ranges to Joaquin Turina's “Fandanguillo” plus two other Turina pieces just before intermission, and concludes with “Etudes” by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Zimmer's background includes master class performances with Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isben, David Russell, Michael Newman and Jorge Morel. He also engaged in classical studies with Maestro Seiko Sesoko. Zimmer has arranged music for one, two and four guitars. His two-guitar arrangement of “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” by Maurice Ravel, is featured on a recording he made with guitarist Eric Brenton of the acclaimed guitar ensemble, Duo Sesoko. Zimmer performs regularly and is an instructor at the Fender Center for the Performing Arts in Corona, Calif.
