La Sierra offering summer camps for music, robotics, CSI, athletics

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- La Sierra University is once again offering a slate of summer camps for the region’s youth, providing a smorgasboard of learning activities from ukulele choir and robot building to fingerprinting techniques and sports.

The camps are day-long experiences and take place between June and July. They are designed for a variety of ages – music camp begins at the kindergarten level while robotics is offered to anyone aged nine and above. They follow on a La Sierra summer camp tradition begun in 2012 with three camps rolled out to the public. This year’s camps are offered in music, science, robotics and crime scene investigation, or CSI. Information on each camp is available below:

2019 AVPA Music Camp

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at La Sierra University will hold its annual summer music camp June 17 – 28 for youth in kindergarten through grade 12. Camps and academies will offer classes in a variety of skill and age-specific activities such as choir, recorder, strings, ukulele, music history and theory, orchestra, musical theater and opera, film music and more.

Science Camps - (NOTICE: SCIENCE CAMPS ARE CANCELLED)

La Sierra University will offer two science camps this summer, GameMaker Science Camp, June 17 – 21, offering board and card games plus intro to programming in Python. World of Worms Science Camp will be held June 24 – 28 and will explore worm biology.

Robotics Summer Camp 

Robotics Summer Camp for ages nine and up will be offered June 17-21 and July 8-12, from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Participants will learn robotics, computer coding, artificial intelligence, and logical and analytical thinking. Along the way they will build their own robots for a robot competition at the end of each camp. 

Robotics Summer Camp tuition is $290 and includes an Arduino microprocessor kit. Information/registration at RobotsForFun.com or info@robotsforfun.com.

CSI Camp

La Sierra’s Criminal Justice program is offering CSI Camp July 22 – 25 for youth ages 14 – 18. Experts will open a window into the world of forensics with specific classes on crime scene processing such as finger print pattern recognition, forensics photography, CSI lab processing and evidence presentation in a mock court proceeding. Classes place an emphasis on teamwork and developing self-confidence. 

The four-day camp will be held 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at La Sierra’s Ontario Criminal Justice Campus, 3491 Concours St., Ontario. Tuition is $199 and includes materials. Information and registration is at Lasierra.edu/csicamp, or contact CSI Coordinator Fred Eslao at 909-458-0039, or at feslao@gmail.com.

Golden Eaglets Summer Youth Programs

La Sierra University’s Golden Eagles athletics program offers Golden Eaglets summer programs for children and youth that includes introductory swimming lessons, a youth swim team, Sky Hawks sports clinics, and an All Sports Camp led by La Sierra athletic staff and student-athletes.
