La Sierra University extends spring break
The community's concerns regarding the difficulties tied to completing final exams, projects, and papers with limited resources; compiling grades in a short time period; and preparing for the online delivery of courses during Spring Quarter have been heard. To this end, the Administration has decided to extend Spring Break by one week. Thus:
- Spring break will begin as planned on Friday, Mar. 20, 2020 and will end on Sunday, Apr. 5.
- Spring Quarter classes will be pushed back by one week so will begin on Monday, April 6, 2020 and will end on Thursday, June 18.
- The Summer session will also start one week later on June 22, 2020 and will end as scheduled on Sept. 11.
This change is intended to allow more time for students to submit their final assignments, exams, and projects for Winter Quarter courses, to grant faculty members an extended period to calculate Winter Quarter grades, as well as to permit student service offices a period to complete necessary interterm processing.
Due to the delayed start date for Spring Quarter, students will be given one additional week to register for Spring classes. This will mean:
- The deadline to add courses for Spring Quarter is now Friday, April 10, 2020. Note, however, that classes will be delivered online until further notice and access to online materials and instruction will not be available until registration is finalized. Students will not be able to "sit in" on online classes without being enrolled, so it is important to complete registration as soon as possible. Please email the Records Office at registrar@lasierra.edu if you need assistance with registration.
- The deadline for faculty to submit grades online for Winter Quarter 2020 will be moved to Monday, March 30, 2020 at 5pm instead of the regular deadline which was Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 2pm.
- Questions regarding online grade submission should be directed to Elsa Sifuentes, Assistant Registrar for Academic Records at elsa@lasierra.edu or (951) 785-2487.
The Administration is aware that many of you have had to change your plans and appreciates the resiliency you have shown and will continue to show throughout these difficult weeks. We must all come together as a community to make the close of Winter Quarter and the start of Spring Quarter as productive and successful as possible. Hopefully this small cushion of time will help us all accommodate to this unusual situation.
