La Sierra University’s music and art departments have collaborated to bring you Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute” in the university’s first full-scale operatic production.

This weekend, in its first fully staged and costumed opera, La Sierra University will bring to life Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's much loved work, “The Magic Flute.”

On Sat., Feb. 27, and Sun., Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., the La Sierra University Opera Theater will present the musical story, or Die Zauberflöte, illustrated and accompanied with orchestra, set and props. The opera will take place at La Sierra's Hole Memorial Auditorium.

This is the first time La Sierra University will produce a fully staged and costumed opera, accompanied by full orchestra. This production involved the collaboration of several ensembles; the La Sierra University Symphonia, conducted by the Dr. Daniel Cummings, the La Sierra University Chamber Singers, conducted by Dr. Earl Richards, and vocal majors from the vocal department directed by Dr. Raejin Lee.

The La Sierra University Art Department, directed by Beatriz Mejia-Krumbein, designed and painted the set and props. The story of “The Magic Flute” is light-hearted and whimsical; it has delighted the hearts of all audiences since its first premiere in Vienna in 1791.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 seniors/La Sierra University staff, faculty and students, and $20 family admission. Children age 12 and under are free. The university is located at 4500 Riverwalk Parkway, Riverside. For additional information call 951-785-2036. A campus map is at https://lasierra.edu/resources/campusmap/.
