La Sierra's Wind Ensemble to perform winter concert

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – La Sierra University this weekend will offer performances by the university’s Wind Ensemble under Dr. David Brennan.

The ensemble's performance is slated for Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at Hole Memorial Auditorium. The repertoire will feature a range of inspiring works including "Suite of Old American Dances" by Robert Russell Bennett, "Down A Country Lane" by Aaron Copland, "The Light Eternal" by James Swearingen, "Marche Des Parachutistes Belges" ("Marche of the Belgian Paratroopers") by Pierre Leemans, "Rhosymedre" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and "Salvation Is Created"  by Pavel Tchesnokoff.

Brennan, a doctoral graduate of UCLA with degrees in saxophone performance and wind conducting, possesses more than more 20 years’ experience as a teacher and as a professional artist. His extensive saxophone performance credits include performing for President Bill Clinton as well as recording music and appearing in music for motion pictures such as “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and “Shrek the Halls.” He has also worked as a consultant for the hit ABC show "Grey's Anatomy" and performed with popular musicians such as Seth McFarlane, Matthew Morrison, and Kelly James. 

He has also played with the acclaimed Los Angeles Philharmonic, West Hollywood Orchestra and other groups, and has gone international with Gang Nam Symphony from Seoul, South Korea. Presently, he is a member of the award-winning Encore Saxophone Quartet.

When he is not performing, he is educating college students. At La Sierra University he teaches courses in saxophone, chamber music, and jazz improvisation. Previously he taught at UCLA and Pepperdine University.
