Loma Linda brings “Freud’s Last Session” to Matheson Hall
La Sierra University’s drama program, headed by Artistic Director Marilynn Loveless, will host “Freud’s Last Session,” a production by Loma Linda University. The drama will star Brady Greer Huffman, actor and director, and Ken Wright, associate professor of anatomy at Loma Linda University.
The play takes place during the German invasion of England in 1939. In the play, famed British novelist, poet and lay theologian C.S. Lewis, played by Huffman, is invited to the home of renowned Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud, played by Wright, to discuss the validity of Christianity. A spirited dialogue ensues over the existence of God, the meaning of life, and love from a Christian and atheistic worldview. The New York Times describes the play as “a sharp, lively discourse, and audience members searching for engaging debate will be pleased.”
Wright also serves as the graduate program director for Loma Linda’s School of Medicine. He is a member of LifeHouse Theater, a Redlands Christian-oriented theatrical group. He has performed in “Damien,” a one-man show about Father Damien. He has also performed in “Ecclesiastes” and “Pilgrim’s Progress: A Musical.” He has acted in several plays that were performed at the Loma Linda University Church.
Huffman has directed several plays for Loma Linda and LifeHouse Theater including “Pilgrim’s Progress: A Musical” and “Scrooge!” He has performed in several plays including “Frankenstein,” “A Christmas Carol,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
“Freud’s Last Session” will take place on Thurs., Oct. 20, Sat., Oct. 22, and Sun., Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The Oct. 20 show will feature a question-and-answer session afterward with Sean Evans, department chair of psychology, and Deborah Higgens, assistant professor of English.
