Noted violist to perform with La Sierra chamber orchestra

 

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Brett Deubner, a noted violist who has performed around the world will bring his talent to La Sierra University in a concert at Hole Memorial Auditorium.

Deubner and the La Sierra University Chamber Orchestra under direction of Dean Anderson will play the “Hoffmeister Viola Concerto” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Symphony No. 29.” The performance will be held at 8 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 9.

Deubner has received worldwide critical acclaim and has been labeled as one of this generation’s most accomplished violists. He has performed with more than 40 orchestras on four continents including the Thuringer Symphoniker in Saalfeld, Germany, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville Symphony, the Grainger Wind Symphony in Melbourne, the String Orchestra of the Rockies, the National Symphony of Ecuador, the State Orchestra of Merida, Venezuela, the New Symphony of Sofia, Bulgaria, and the Orchestra Bell’Arte of Paris. As a chamber music collaborator, Deubner has performed with the Tokyo Quartet, the Vermeer quartet, pianists Joseph Kallichstein, Robert Koenig, cellists Wendy Warner, Sarah Sant’Ambrogio, and many other top artists.

As a musician committed to extending the repertoire for the viola, Deubner has collaborated with many leading composers including Richard Danielpour, Samuel Adler and Lalo Schifrin. To date, more than 80 works for viola, including over 30 viola concerti and numerous solo and chamber works have been dedicated to and premiered by Deubner, his biography states. In the fall of 2017, Deubner will record and premiere Grammy-award winning composer Danielpour’s viola concerto which is being specifically written for him. In addition, he will perform a five-city tour of the West Coast from Los Angeles to Vancouver, as well as an East Coast tour culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall. 

Anderson, entering his fourth year as director of La Sierra’s orchestral programs, has also served as music director for the Dana Point Symphony for more than four seasons. He is artistic director for Symphony Irvine and is frequently engaged as an orchestra clinician and with youth ensembles around the United States. His broad experience as an opera conductor includes directing the West Coast premiere of Daron Hagen’s “Little Nemo in Slumberland” with the La Sierra University Opera.

Anderson studied violin with John Mcleod and conducting with Edward Dolbashian at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of California, Los Angeles under the mentorship of Neal Stulberg.

Admission for the La Sierra University Orchestra concert is $15 general admission, $10 seniors age 55 and over, $5 for students and teachers. Children age 12 and under are free.
