Performance collective to showcase world-class artists at La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Contemporary Performance Collective and La Sierra University’s Department of Music will host a night of new chamber music performed by world-class artists at La Sierra’s Hole Memorial Auditorium.

Titled “CPC III,” the concert will be held on Wed., May 24 at 8 p.m. and will feature the Lyris Quartet whose members have performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and other renowned groups and artists. The lineup will also include harpist Jacqueline Marshall, pianist Nadia Shpachenko, dancer Aitana Jordan, Pasha Tseitlin, violin and Nic Gerpe, piano of The Panic Duo, and more.

The evening’s performance will showcase new works, including five world premiere compositions, by Los Angeles-based composers Reena Esmail, Danaë Vlasse, Dan Martinez, Dana Howell, Derrick Spiva Jr., Juhi Bansal, and Dante De Silva.

The musicians of the CPC perform around the globe and are regularly seen with the L.A. Philharmonic, the Los Angeles and Long Beach operas, the music series Piano Spheres, Jacaranda and Hear Now, and on innumerable soundtracks recorded in Los Angeles, including “Star Wars,” “Zootopia” and more. The composers of the CPC have won Emmys and Grammys, written premieres for the L.A. Phil, the New York Philharmonic and others, and written for movies including “Jurassic World,” “Inside Out,” “Avengers,” “Mission Impossible” and more.

The Lyris Quartet was founded in 2008 and consists of Alyssa Park, Luke Maurer, Shalini Viayan, and Tim Loo. The group has headlined at the Hollywood Bowl and its members have won top prizes at the Tchaikovsky International Competition and Aspen Music Festival.

The Lyris Quartet has collaborated with renowned artists Natalia Gutman, David Geringas, Martha Argerich, Alban Gerhardt, Boris Pergamenschikov, among others. They appeared alongside composer and pianist Billy Childs as part of the L.A. Phil’s Jazz and World music series at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and with Steve Reich at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Bing Hall.

With an international presence, the Lyris Quartet has collaborated with Grammy-nominated groups Absolute Ensemble, Southwest Chamber Music, and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. They have also made appearances in various festivals such as Ravinia, Brahms Festival in Madrid, Music Academy of the West, Banff Centre for the Arts, Czech SommerFest, and the Oregon Festival of American Music.

The CPC was founded by Jacqueline Marshall, La Sierra University adjunct faculty, and co-founded by La Sierra alumnae Zoë Godfrey. The collective is committed to commissioning, promoting, and performing concerts of 21st century chamber music and making quality music affordable for the community.

The CPC has collaborated with La Sierra to bring concerts and workshops to campus, and to connect students with musicians and professionals in Los Angeles.
