Pulitzer Prize-winning author to lecture on "God: A Biography"

Jack Miles, acclaimed author, university professor, book and literary news editor, will speak at La Sierra University about his Pulitzer Prize-winning work, “God: A Biography.”
 
Miles' talk, “The Autobiography of God's Biographer,” serves as the 12th annual Paul J. Landa Memorial Lecture on Faith and Learning and will take place March 5, 4 p.m., at La Sierra University Church, 4937 Sierra Vista Ave., Riverside. Admission is free.  A reception will follow the lecture.
 
Miles is a distinguished professor of English and Religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine. He also serves as a Senior Fellow for Religious Affairs with the Pacific Council on International Policy.
 
A prolific writer, his work has appeared in The Atlantic, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, and many other publications. His work in the editorial world includes serving as an editor for publisher Doubleday, executive editor at the University of California Press, literary editor at the Los Angeles Times and a member of the Times Editorial Board writing on politics and culture. Currently he is general editor of the forthcoming Norton Anthology of World Religions.
 
As an author, Miles received the Pulitzer Prize in 1996 for his book “GOD: A Biography.” Another of his books, “Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God,” led to his being named a MacArthur Fellow for the years 2003-2007.
 
Miles spent his early academic career as a Jesuit seminarian, studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem before enrolling at Harvard University where he completed a Ph.D. in Near Eastern languages. He is fluent in several modern languages.
