Seniors showcase their artistic talent in annual show
Photography was a passion for Alexandra Ramirez before it became a career interest. “I always enjoyed the idea of recording and capturing the essence of reality to make it a lasting memory,” she said.
The La Sierra University graphic design major is graduating in two weeks, but before she walks in front of hundreds of spectators to receive her diploma she will exhibit about 10 of her photographs in a combined senior show at La Sierra's Brandstater Gallery.
Ramirez along with graduating art majors Albertdi De La Fuente, Christina Park, Christopher Wilden, Roxana Pacheco, and non-graduating student William Benzaquen will display their talent in La Sierra's Senior Exhibit 2012 June 4 - June 17. The show will include some pieces by Kiyomi Fukui's May solo exhibit “Circulation.”
An opening reception will be held at Brandstater Gallery June 4, 6 - 8 p.m. The gallery will offer another reception for the graduates' family members and friends on June 17 following La Sierra University's commencement ceremony.

Gallery hours are Mon. - Thurs., 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sun., 2 - 5 p.m. Admission is free. The gallery is located at the Visual Art Center 112, Building 1. For further information call 951-785-2170. La Sierra University is located at 4500 Riverwalk Parkway, Riverside.
The students are fine art and graphic design majors. Their exhibition will include paintings, prints, photography and many other works. Their art reveals their thoughts, interests and influences.
“The inspiration to most of my art pieces comes from cultural changes, experiences, and my roots,” Ramirez says in her artist's statement. “One of the most famous Mexican holidays called “Día de los Muertos” (The Day of the Dead), originated in my hometown, Péatzcuaro Michocán, Mexico. This mysterious celebration has influenced several of my series of fine art and photography. Photography allows us to go back in time and revive precious memories or tragedies that define who we are today.”
