Start your week with heavenly harp music

 

Celia Chan Valerio has graced stages around the world with her beautiful harp music. An adjunct harp professor at La Sierra University, Valerio will present a harp recital on Feb. 7.

This Sunday, La Sierra University adjunct harp Professor Celia Chan Valerio will perform works by J.S. Bach, Giovanni Pescetti, Pierick Houdy, Claude DeBussy and Carlos Salzedo. Harpist Camryn Holt will accompany Valerio on two pieces. The concert will take place in La Sierra's Hole Memorial Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 general admission; $5 seniors/La Sierra University students/faculty/staff; $20 families. Children age 12 and under are free. Call 951-785-2036 for information.

Valerio is the Adjunct Professor of Harp at La Sierra University, harp instructor at the University of California Riverside and former principal harpist for the Florida West Coast Symphony, Sarasota.  She teaches privately and performs as a solo harpist around Southern California. 

Valerio has been playing the harp professionally for 20 years and has received many awards and prizes in various competitions. She has also been recognized on an international level in the USA International Harp Competition. Valerio has released two solo recordings titled “Favorites:  Hymns and Classics” and “Favorites:  Christmas.”  She has performed as a soloist for the American Harp Society National Conference, World Harp Congress Convention, Indianapolis Arts Council, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Brandstater Gallery Concert Series.  She has performed extensively around the United States as well as Australia, Canada, France, and Mexico.  

Valerio holds a Bachelor of Music from La Sierra University and a Master and Doctor of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington where she studied under the direction of world-renowned Susann McDonald. Valerio is a native of Loma Linda where she resides with her husband and daughter.
