Concert pianist Danny Holt will give a performance March 30 on three historic, 19th century grand pianos.

The Period Piano Concert will be held Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Hole Memorial Auditorium. Admission is $15 at the door, $5 for students.

Holt’s eclectic performance will feature three 19th century grand pianos: two Broadwoods from 1813 and 1829, and one Erard made in 1869. Holt's program explores repertoire from the mid-18th to the late 19th centuries, including works by C.P.E. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Franz Xaver Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Fanny Hensel, and Brahms, plus a few additional surprises.

Holt has been called “exceptional” by the Los Angeles Times, and The Recordin Waterloo, Ontario described him as “the classical music equivalent of an extreme sports athlete.” He brings his boundless energy and wit to performances of classical repertoire as well as music by the composers of today.

Holt has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl, and has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Bang on a Can All-Stars, and Blue Man Group, among others. Gramophone called Holt's 2009 Fast Jump CD by Innova Recordings “a compelling showcase for Holt's innate virtuosity and gregarious temperament.” Holt has released five CDs in subsequent years. Although he is known as a specialist in contemporary repertoire, he is also passionate about historical keyboard instruments and performance practice of the 18th and 19th centuries.

“This is the fourth year that Period Piano Center and the Department of Music at La Sierra University have collaborated in recitals with our antique pianos,” said Bill Shull, president of Period Piano Center. “Why antique pianos?  Because pianos from the composer's era best reveal the composer's ideas, nuances, even color and feeling.  It's a really magical experience.”
