University to celebrate 75th Candlelight Concert
La Sierra University’s 75th Candlelight Concert will be held Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. at the La Sierra University Church of Seventh-day Adventists. Admission is free with reserved seating in front rows available for $20 per person.
The Christmas-themed program will feature performances by the music department’s orchestra, choirs, symphonic band, vocal and instrumental ensembles. Repertoire will include the debut of a composition by music student Ernesto Herrera Miranda titled Brilla, Brilla!! (Shine, Shine!!). An emerging composer and arranger, Miranda’s work has been performed by the award-winning Brigham Young University Singers.
La Sierra University this year celebrates its 100th anniversary. Twenty-five years after the school’s opening, the La Sierra College campus church, now the university church, was completed. The inaugural Candlelight Concert was held on Dec. 13, 1947. Articles about the church construction in the weekly student newspaper noted the new church with its 78-foot tower was the largest Seventh-day Adventist Church in the state and largest church of any denomination in Riverside.
Tickets for reserved Candlelight Concert seats are available at https://music-events.lasierra.edu/calendar/2022-2023-season/, or by calling 951-785-2036. For further information email music@lasierra.edu.
