Wind Ensemble, guest conductor Thompson to perform “Iconic Voices”

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- In a performance that honors quintessential composers of music for wind instruments, the La Sierra University Wind Ensemble will present “Iconic Voices” and feature a guest conductor.

The concert will be held Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at Hole Memorial Auditorium with the first half of the evening’s repertoire led by Dr. Mallory Thompson of Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. The concert’s second half will be directed by Giovanni Santos, La Sierra’s director of wind and percussion studies.

The program will include works by William Schuman, Michael Daugherty, and Percy Grainger. La Sierra’s David Kendall will also perform on euphonium.

Dr. Thompson holds the John W. Beattie Chair of Music at Northwestern University. In 2003 she was named a Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence. She has recorded five albums with the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble on the Summit Records label.
