Wind Ensemble’s new director Brennan, LLA guest conductor to lead fall concert

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The La Sierra University Wind Ensemble returns to the stage Saturday, Nov. 9 under the direction of Dr. David Brennan and featuring Loma Linda Academy guest conductor Alex Fillman.

The Wind Ensemble will perform works by Ticheli, Vaughan-Williams, Alford, Arnold, and Maslanka, with appearances by La Sierra University's Saxophone Quartet, La Sierra chamber music groups, and ensembles from Loma Linda Academy. 

Brennan this fall was appointed director of La Sierra’s Wind Ensemble and Big Band. He has served as a performer and educator in the greater Los Angeles area for more than 20 years including 13 years with La Sierra’s music department as an adjunct faculty member teaching saxophone, chamber music, and music education. He holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in music from UCLA where he also serves on the faculty. His ensemble experience includes work with such noted groups as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Long Beach Opera, New West Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony and many others. He has worked on stage and in the studio with top conductors and composers including Bill Conti, Patrick Williams, Harry Gregson-Williams, Bill Cunliffe and the renowned John Williams, and has appeared with such top acts as The Mills Brothers, Matthew Morrison, Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band, Barry Manilow, and Seth Macfarlane.

Brennan’s career also includes work on soundtracks for many feature films and television shows including “A Bright Shining Lie,” “Shrek the Halls, and “G.I. Joe.” He has also had the honor of playing for President Bill Clinton and consulting with the hit ABC television show “Grey’s Anatomy.” He is currently a member of the Encore Saxophone Quartet which performs regularly around Southern California. 

The Wind Ensemble performance will be held at 7 p.m. at Hole Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are sold at the door and are $5 for students, $10 for seniors aged 55 and over, and $15 general admission.
