Women’s flag football team takes off at La Sierra
The 24-player fledgling team holds a 4-3 record thus far. The team faces Benedictine University on March 18.
Flag football was among four new sports programs added to the Golden Eagles athletics department for the 2025-2026 school year. It joined women’s beach volleyball, men’s indoor volleyball, and men’s golf this year, expanding the department’s sports programs from nine to 13.
The flag football team began practice last September 29. The home opener win against the Bulldogs in January inspired the players as they moved forward into the season.
“It felt amazing scoring my first two official touchdowns especially knowing my little siblings were on the sideline watching,” said Gomez in an athletics department article about the game. “My teammates' support and cheers made it unforgettable. I'm even more excited to build off it and help the team keep getting better as the year goes on.”
The Golden Eagles women’s flag football team, operating under the leadership of Head Coach Brianne Talboom, attracted players from a variety of football experiences and backgrounds, including those who have competed in the NFL Flag Football Championships, in Junior Olympics, and who have appeared in a Super Bowl halftime show featuring flag football.
“I love flag football because the essence of this sport lives deep within me." – Kimora Chocklon, Flag Football Corner Back
Golden Eagles Corner Back Kimora Chocklon, a freshman Film & Television major from Lancaster, Calif., has been playing football since elementary school when she joined boys’ teams. Born and raised in Denver, Colo., Chocklon realized a love of flag football after moving to San Diego with her family during high school.
“I realized I wanted to pursue it competitively after the first day of football practice,” she said. Her team won the Olympic qualifier tournament in Chula Vista which led to the Junior Olympics in Houston in 2025.
Chocklon committed to La Sierra's program because of the coaching staff, faculty and the university campus, she said.
“I’m looking forward to connecting as a team and creating a safe space for all athletes and coaches,” she said in an interview prior to the start of the school year. “I love flag football because the essence of this sport lives deep within me. It demanded everything I had to give and more. Creating recognition for this sport and [for] women is my purpose.”
